What I Offer

I have extensive experience teaching Japanese at all levels to students from various nationalities. I tailor my lessons to suit each student’s level, needs, and preferred learning style to ensure the most effective learning experience.

Here are my teaching styles for different levels of demand. If your needs do not align with these, I can customize our lessons to meet your specific requirements.

My
Lesson

01

Zelo-level students

If you have any experience learning Japanese, that's great! Some of my students started from scratch by memorizing Hiragana and Katakana. I know a good app that can help you memorize Hiragana and Katakana, and most people master them in about 2-3 weeks. In the meantime, I can teach you basic grammar structure.

03

Intermediate level

For intermediate-level students, I typically assign reading homework to increase vocabulary, kanji, and idioms. If you don't have time to complete it outside of class, we can read it together during our lessons. The main purpose of the reading assignments is to boost your vocabulary, kanji knowledge, and idioms. After grasping the basic ideas from the reading, we will discuss it as a form of conversation practice. This approach is very popular among intermediate students. For some students who want to brush up on communication skills, I use the Marugoto textbook, which includes lots of listening exercises as well as reading and discussion exercises.

05

VCE exam preparation

I’ve been teaching Australian high school students preparing for the VCE exam, which is essential for university entrance in Australia. To score highly on the VCE, you need to be at an intermediate-advanced level. I support students in the speaking, reading, and writing sections using a textbook called Kookoo Seikatsu, which is specifically designed for VCE preparation. For listening practice, we will work with past VCE exams to help you get familiar with the exam format and improve your listening skills.

02

Beginnars

For beginners, I typically use the Genki textbook, which provides clear grammar explanations in English along with plenty of practical exercises. To reinforce what you've learned, I also incorporate the workbook, various activities, and my own resources. This approach ensures you not only understand the grammar rules but also remember them effectively through engaging and interactive activities.

04

JLPT preparation lessons

Most of my students have successfully passed the JLPT exams, from N5 to N1. For those preparing for the JLPT, I typically use the Somatome or Shin Kanzen Master textbooks. Since the exam consists of four sections, I usually recommend students study kanji and vocabulary on their own. I can help with understanding grammar, reading comprehension, and listening exercises if that’s your preference. It's most effective to identify which section you find most challenging and concentrate on improving that specific area to boost your overall performance.

06

Academic class support

I’ve also supported university students studying Japanese, including those at an advanced or near-native level. I can help you keep up with your university classes by working with your specific textbooks and materials, offering additional guidance and explanations where needed. Whether you're looking to refine your skills or catch up on coursework, I can tailor the lessons to meet your academic needs.

Travel Japanese

08

One of my special lessons is tailored for intermediate and advanced students who want to use Japanese comics as a learning tool. Manga expressions are quite unique, and through this lesson, you'll pick up a lot of casual Japanese phrases. Once you gain a deep understanding of the content, it’s incredibly satisfying. And above all, it’s fun! Please note that this lesson is suitable only for intermediate and advanced-level students.

Japan has become one of the most popular tourist destinations, and many students want to prepare some Japanese before their trip. While it’s challenging to learn enough Japanese to fully communicate with locals in a short time, I’ll help you master the basics, like phrases for shopping, telling time, using verbs, making requests, and more. Most of my students not only enjoy their trips but often decide to continue learning Japanese afterward, as they plan to return to Japan again in the future.

10

Free conversation

If you'd like to simply enjoy a conversation with me to maintain or boost your speaking skills, I’d be delighted! I love meeting and chatting with people, and our sessions often get so engaging that we almost forget how time flies. I’m a strong communicator, so don’t worry if you feel nervous—conversation will come naturally. Building a strong bond with my students is one of my strengths, and many of my students have become long-term friends. We often meet up when they visit Japan. I look forward to becoming friends with you, too!

Your Own Customized Japanese Lesson

If you have specific goals or interests that aren’t listed above, don’t worry! With my years of experience and academic knowledge, I can create a fully customized lesson just for you. Whether you're interested in a particular aspect of Japanese culture, need help with a unique project, or want to focus on something specific, I’m here to tailor the lesson to meet your needs. Let’s work together to create a lesson plan that perfectly fits your learning style and goals!

Thank you for being my 日本の先生! You were a great teacher and helped me a lot to improve my limited 日本語 skills. I probably still need a lot of practice to actually get around Japan, but I'm glad you helped me as far as I could get during my time there. I appreciate every lesson and all the other conversations that's we've had . I hope there will be another opportunity given to come back to Japan and have you again as a teacher! ありがとうございます!じゃまたね!
